BLINDSIDE presents the third iteration of the BLINDSIDE Festival, On The Verge – an experimental art festival of chance encounters, immersive soundscapes and intimate creative exchanges.
From Thursday 24th August, for 11 days art will materialise in the alleyways and byways of Melbourne’s CBD. New works and site-responsive performances will disrupt, alter and transform the spaces we take for granted. Curated by Charity Bramwell, Lisa Mansfield and Bianca Tainsh, On The Verge showcases the talents of emerging and established artists.
The Royal Arcade is proud host to two installations:
Where: Next to Mu Shop, Shop 43, Royal Arcade (near the Elizabeth St entrance)
When: Mon toThu: 9am–6pm, Fri: 10am–8pm, Sat: 9am–5pm & Sun: 10am–5pm
What: Supermodel is a series of small assemblage sculptures constructed from found plastics. Louise Paramor has been experimenting with found objects and ephemeral materials for more than two decades, transforming them into distinctive and innovative sculptures which challenge conventional readings of everyday detritus in contemporary life. With work held in major Australian and international collections, she is represented in Melbourne by Karen Woodbury Gallery.
Where: Somewhere Store, Shop 29, Level 2, Royal Arcade (near the Little Collins St entrance, up the stairs next to Caffe E Torta)
When: Mon, Tue, Wed & Thu: 10am–6pm, Fri: 10am–8pm, Sat: 10am–6pm & Sun: 11am–5pm
What: Enter Dante’s Inferno in an upstairs storeroom… Buff Diss specialises in creating work with tape. His works explore the nature of line and how it can intersect space, generate volume, add texture and elements of the unexpected. Diss’s love of traditional graffiti and studies in Computer Science influenced the evolution of his unique style, which often features mythical figures and giant hands interacting with architecture and geometric patterns.
BLINDSIDE’s multi-platform festival is a FREE event. So don’t just stand there – follow the prompts, plot your journey and remap your city!
